PROTECTING PEOPLE AND PREMISES

Businesses can invest a great deal of time and money into their premises, ensuring that they provide a pleasant and enjoyable environment for staff to work in. Having made the investment, it is important to protect both the building and the people within it, and window film can play a major role in achieving this.

Large windows and roof-lights continue to be popular features in office spaces, the sleek and stylish appearance of glass making for a professional and modern look, whilst the natural light and view provided are vital in creating a pleasant atmosphere and feel. In addition to the benefits however, glass can cause issues.

The Hitachi offices in Trowbridge, Wiltshire benefit from over 45 large roof-lights, the large expanses of glass serving to flood the modern office with welcome natural light. Unfortunately, in addition to the light, the windows were also causing problems with glare. The angle of the glazing and the positioning of the sun meant that all too often it was difficult for employees to comfortably read, or focus on screens or colleagues. The Window Film Company was approached for a solution.

After discussions about the site, the performance required and the aesthetic considerations, it was agreed that an application of Optiview window film was the appropriate solution. A highly developed solar control film, Optiview can deliver glare reduction of up to 94%, providing virtually instant relief to the discomfort caused by harsh sunlight, without blocking the view or sacrificing valuable and welcome natural light.

Once installed, the film delivers additional benefits. As well as reducing the glare, the film filters out up to 99% of the suns’ harmful UV rays – one of the major causes of fading. As well as protecting furniture, upholstery and equipment, by blocking UV rays the window film also protects skin from sun damage.

The office is a modern, stylish building and as such the internal appearance of the film was an important consideration. The Optiview range of films have been specially developed to provide a reduced internal reflectivity, particularly valuable in times of low external light, meaning a more neutral internal appearance both day and night.

The film was installed by one of The Window Film Company’s teams of fully trained installers, the work carried out quickly and efficiently with the office remaining operational as they worked. The end result was an instant relief from the discomfort caused by glare, the knowledge that the office and its inhabitants were protected from harmful UV rays and a sleek, professional looking appearance in keeping with the office’s impressive interior.
