DON'T CARE FOR GLARE? WINDOW FILM CAN HELP

Jan 29 2016

Glare can cause serious issues all year round. Sunlight can flood through untreated glass, creating an uncomfortable internal environment and making it difficult to focus on screens, paperwork or colleagues. An application of window film can have an immediate effect, as a large Colchester based company recently found out.

The Company in question was headquartered in a building with a vast expanse of glazing forming the front elevation. Whilst this brought with it the benefits of natural light and a clear uninterrupted to view to the exterior, glare was a serious issue. The Window Film Company attended site to carry out a survey, with research revealing that the glass had been treated with a film some years ago and that this film had ceased to be effective. The job would therefore be a strip and replace project, with over 230 square metres of glass affected.

With the scale of the job established, the film type was agreed. The Window Film Company were able to suggest Optiview 15, a high performance solar control film that serves to reduce glare by up to 86%. The external face of the film has a reflective finish which prevents the internal build-up of heat. The film also blocks up to 99% of the suns UV rays, helping to protect against fading. One of the additional benefits of the Optiview range is the reduced internal reflectivity. Often, films can take on a reflective internal appearance during darker times; Optiview has been specially developed to deliver a more neutral internal appearance.

Samples of the film were provided to the client, allowing them to assess the film in different areas and at varying times of day and night. With the film deemed suitable, work on planning the installation could commence.

The size of the job meant that the work was scheduled to take place over a five day period, with a pre-start meeting identifying the priority areas that needed completing first. Over the course of the week, two of The Window Film Company’s fully qualified installation teams undertook the stripping of the existing film, before replacing it with the superior Optiview window film. In total, 443 windows were treated.

With the film installed, the glazing took on a sleek and stylish external appearance, delivering immediate glare relief on the inside, as well as effective solar control and fade protection.
