CUT GRAPHICS FOR CAFE AFRICA

May 06 2016

Café Africa is an independent business based in the Buckinghamshire town of Amersham, and here at The Window Film Company we were delighted to carry out an installation of eye-catching cut graphics for the café’s frontage.

Café Africa was founded in 2009 with the purpose of serving ethical, fair-trade produce whilst also raising money for the Café Africa Charity. Set up in 2006, the charity was created with the aim of reducing poverty by restoring coffee production levels in Rwanda and all profits raised by the business in Amersham go directly to the charity.

The job required the creation of a range of graphics for application to the façade, including opening times, a “welcome” image and a number of stylish picture frames, within which would sit various pieces of literature and information. The graphics were supplied by the Café management and prepared by The Window Film Company’s in house print team. The next task was film selection.

It was vital that the film chosen was clearly visible from the exterior, whilst also looking aesthetically pleasing from the inside. Frosted film is a popular choice for occasions such as this, with the film providing the classic appearance of acid etched or sandblasted glass – it is also possible to computer cut this type of film for a precision recreation of even the most complex of designs.

Frosted film is available in a number of different finishes and samples of each variation were supplied to the café for testing. This allowed the team there to see how each film looked and performed at different times of day and in differing light conditions. After careful consideration, The Window Film Company’s “Silver Etch” film was chosen, primarily as it provided the most striking visual finish.

The film was subsequently cut by the graphics team, with each element carefully hand finished and checked, before being installed by one of The Window Film Company’s experienced installers.

The end result was a stylish new appearance for the windows, delivering a mixture of welcoming graphics, useful information and branding elements. For a visual representation of the installation and the finished product, please watch the video at the top of this page.
