WINDOW FILM WONDERLAND

Jul 11 2014

Advances in window film manufacture and print technology mean that transforming windows, glass partitions and other surfaces has never been easier. In using professional standard films and state of the art printers and inks it is possible to create bespoke solutions that immediately transform the look and feel of a room or building.

The Window Film Company was approached to provide a privacy solution with a twist. An Oxford based organisation required a window film that would block the view into meeting rooms without impacting on the natural light. The company also wanted to take the opportunity to introduce a decorative element throughout the office, with the plan to feature images and text from the much-loved “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” by Lewis Carroll.

Upon receipt of the brief, the first task was to identify an appropriate product. The Window Film Company’s Frostbrite frosted window film is a popular privacy choice for a range of reasons. The film delivers privacy by giving glazing the appearance of sandblasted or acid etched glass, blocking the view from both sides once applied. The film is effective immediately and provides a sophisticated and stylish solution, with the added benefit of allowing high levels of natural light transmission.

Frostbrite frosted film is also long lasting and durable, making it suitable for high traffic areas such as meeting room doors, corridors, partitions and reception areas.

The film also provides an excellent surface on which to print. By using state of the art UV print facilities, The Window Film Company is able to reproduce images, text and other graphics in perfect clarity. It is also possible to print solid blocks of colour and other effects, and on this occasion it was decided that the frost effect would be achieved by printing it onto an optically clear film. This method would ensure that as well as delivering the required privacy, the printed images and text would be bold and vivid on both sides of the glass.

The selected text and images which included Tweedle dee and Tweedle dum, the Mad Hatter and Alice herself were provided and The Window Film Company’s in-house graphics team provided proofs for approval. Once signed off, printing could commence with the job comprising 22 large floor to ceiling panels.

Once printed, each panel was carefully checked and trimmed ready for installation. The fitting was carried out by one of The Window Film Company’s experienced installation teams, whose training, experience and in depth understanding of the products they install ensured they were able to complete a flawless fitting throughout the office.

Once installed the printed film provided the necessary levels of privacy throughout the office, whilst also providing a series of eye-catching and unique features helping to ensure an impressive and interesting working environment.

This project is a fine example of what can be achieved by printing onto film, and illustrates that delivering a functional need such as privacy can still provide inspiration and style.
