GETTING MORE FROM MANIFESTATION

Feb 20 2015

Manifestation offers a fantastic opportunity to be creative and to add an extra dimension to glass and glazing. The team at The Window Film Company are experts in the design, print and installation of manifestation solutions, able to deliver standard or bespoke creations to exact specifications.

Glazing of a certain size and in specific locations requires markings known as manifestation to be applied. These markings need to be of a minimum size and at specific points on the glass, with the sole aim being to make the glass visible. The legislation is set out in Approved Document M (part of the Building regulations) and states the necessary size and location of manifestation markings. As long as these criteria are met, the appearance of the manifestation is down to the owner of the premises.

After a refurbishment programme, a Buckinghamshire based school wanted to use the required manifestation to add both a branding and design element to the glass. With this in mind, The Window Film Company were able to suggest a solid Frosted band to meet the manifestation legislation, with the added design element created by printing directly onto the film.

The school were able to provide a range of graphics, the majority of them silhouettes of various sporting activities, which were adapted for use by The Window Film Company’s in house graphics team. With a few minor adjustments made to the artwork, proofs and a sample panel were created and supplied to the school for approval.

The sample panel allowed those at the school to observer first-hand how the film looked and behaved in situ, allowing them to experience the film in different conditions and light levels. The film used was Frostbrite frosted film, a high quality film that when applied gives glass the appearance of acid-etched or sandblasted effect. This appearance provides the necessary contrast to ensure it meets manifestation legislation, whilst its durable nature and flexibility make it the perfect surface for printing onto.

With the sample panel and proofs agreed, work began on printing and finishing the film ahead of installation. All printed work is carried out in house, allowing The Window Film Company to maintain complete control over every part of the process, in turn ensuring that every job is produced and finished to the highest standard possible.

With the print complete, the film was fitted by a team of The Window Film Company’s trained installers. The work took place at a pre-determined time and date, with the install carried out quickly and efficiently to ensure the minimum of disruption to what is a busy school.

Almost 20 linear metres of printed graphics were installed, meeting manifestation requirements whilst also giving the area a professional, stylish and welcoming appearance, as well as an element of privacy.
