Window film for privacy is available in a range of finishes, meaning there is certain to be a film that meets the appearance requirements of your project. Window film can also be customised by printing or cutting, delivering a bespoke privacy solution for glass.
This project took place at a school in Essex, with the requirement being for the application of one-way privacy window film to over one hundred panes of glass. A key specification was that the window film matched the colour of existing spandrel panels which were prevalent throughout.
Spandrel panels are common in sizeable buildings with large expanses of glass, and tend to be solid coloured panels that are positioned in between windows, usually to block unsightly elements such as floors, ceilings, pipework and wiring. In this case the panels were a vibrant burgundy, and any window film installed had to match this colour.
The other stipulation was that the window film should deliver one-way privacy, enabling students and teachers inside the school to see out, while obscuring the view from the outside in. Taking into account the need for this performance and the requirement for customisation, it was agreed that Contra Vision privacy film was the most suitable solution.
Contra Vision privacy film comprises hundreds of perforations or small holes. The film is black on the inside, with the outside printed to take on the desired appearance – in this case, the same burgundy colour as the existing spandrel panels. Once in place, the outside of the film appears as a solid colour, while for those on the inside looking out, the holes in the film allow for a view out.
The view out is delivered as the human eye naturally focuses on what is visible through the holes, automatically creating a clear view to the exterior.
Using the pantone reference of the existing spandrel panels, The Window Film Company’s graphics and print team were able to print the film to match the burgundy colour required, delivering a one-way privacy window film solution that was perfectly in keeping with the existing external appearance of the school.
There were over 100 panels in total, with each panel installed to the external face of the glass by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers; using powered access equipment to reach the majority of the panels, some of which were three storeys high.
Once in place, the film was effective immediately – delivering the uniform exterior look while also providing one-way privacy throughout.
