One-way privacy films

One-way privacy films generally have a mirrored or reflective appearance during daylight hours, with this look serving to block the view from the outside in. The view from the inside out is maintained, with these films also offering additional benefits such as heat and glare reduction, alongside UV protection.

We also offer Contra Vision Privacy window film, for one-way privacy without a reflective external appearance.

Two-way privacy films

Two-way privacy films are available for when it is necessary to block the view from both sides of the glass. The most popular type of two-way privacy film is Frostbrite, our frosted window film that gives glass the appearance of acid etched or sandblasted glazing. We also offer coloured two-way privacy films, which will block both the view and light. You can also explore Fabricize, our range of fabric-style window films.

Frosted film and patterns

The Window Film Company offers a stunning range of decorative privacy window film options, utilising Frostbrite frosted film. While Frostbrite looks superb in it's original state, it can also be custom cut or printed to feature striking designs and illustrations. We even have exclusive ranges by much loved designers such as Mini Moderns, MissPrint and Hannah Nunn.

Contra Vision privacy film

Contra Vision one-way privacy window film has a perforated surface that blocks the view from the outside whilst allowing a view from the inside out. This film has a white appearance on the outside, with the inside surface of the surface black. The film works thanks to the perforated holes in the film - the eye is drawn to the holes and instead of seeing the film, instinctively sees through the repeated perforations to enjoy a view to the outside.

FAQs - Privacy Window Film

It depends on the type of window film.

One-way privacy films, such as our High Reflective Silver Window Film, work by balancing light levels. During the day, when it is brighter outside than inside, they provide privacy from the outside. At night, when interior lights are on and it is darker outside, this effect is reversed and visibility from outside can increase. You can learn more about how this works on our one-way privacy film page.

If you require privacy at night, a two-way solution such as a frosted or opaque film is recommended. Our Frostbrite frosted film is a popular choice, offering consistent privacy both day and night while still allowing natural light to pass through.

Yes, many privacy window films are suitable for DIY installation.

Our films are designed to be installed using standard household tools, and we provide clear fitting instructions to guide you through the process. With a little care and patience, most customers are able to achieve a good result.

You can explore our full range of privacy window films on our window film shop online, where you’ll find options suitable for DIY installation along with guidance on choosing the right film.

For larger projects, difficult access, or specialist films, professional installation may be the better option to ensure the best possible finish.

Most privacy window films will reduce the amount of light passing through the glass, but they are designed to maintain a light and comfortable interior environment rather than block light completely.

One-way privacy films, such as High Reflective Silver, allow a high level of natural light to pass through while providing daytime privacy. Frosted films, such as Frostbrite, also allow light through but diffuse it, creating a softer, more even finish while obscuring visibility.

If complete light block is required, specialist films such as blackout films are available. These are designed to prevent light passing through the glass entirely and are typically used in environments where full light control is needed.

The most suitable option will depend on the level of privacy and light control you are looking to achieve.

Window privacy film can be used in a wide range of residential and commercial settings, wherever you want to reduce visibility while still allowing light to pass through.

Common applications include:

  • Bathroom windows, where privacy is required without blocking natural light
  • Garden Rooms, helping to reduce visibility from the outside while maintaining your view
  • Office spaces, meeting rooms, and internal glazing, where privacy and a professional finish are important

Privacy films are a versatile solution for both homes and businesses.
