A Wiltshire homeowner has alleviated the problem of excess heat and glare with an application of window film from The Window Film Company. Three different solar control films were applied to separate parts of the property, delivering a slightly different appearance in each location.
Window film was required to reduce heat and glare in bedroom windows, on a set of bifold doors, and also on a roof lantern. While high performance was the most important consideration, the appearance and finish of the film was also a key factor, with specific films chosen to deliver a particular aesthetic in each part of the house.
To cut down on heat and glare in the bedrooms, it was agreed that Medium Reflective Silver provided the best solution. During hours of sunlight, this solar control window film takes on a reflective appearance on the external facing side, and it’s this mirrored effect that serves to reflect away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy before it can pass through glass and add to the internal temperature.
This film also provides excellent glare reduction, cutting down on glare by up to 65%. Both the heat and glare reduction is achieved without blocking the daytime view out through the glass, delivering high performance without drastically altering the internal appearance of the rooms in question.
For the roof lantern, High Reflective Silver was installed. This film works in the same way as Medium Reflective Silver, but with a slightly more mirrored appearance that enables it to reject more heat and glare. The configuration of the glazing meant that an external application was the most appropriate way to install the film, using the flat roof as a base from which to install. As it was an external application, the external grade version of the film was used, delivering excess heat rejection of up to 78% and glare reduction of up to 83%.
The third phase of the installation was an application of Climate Ultra window film to the external face of a set of bifold doors. This film was chosen for its combination of performance and the more neutral external appearance – it has heat reducing properties, without taking on the reflective appearance of other solar control films.
The films were installed throughout the property by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers, with the film immediately delivering a noticeable improvement in internal comfort, alongside an aesthetic finish that suited each part of the home.
