A large modern office building in Reading has solved the issue of year round glare, thanks to an application of specialist window film by The Window Film Company.
The newly constructed office facility benefits from a striking glass façade, delivering an impressive and stylish appearance, while also flooding the reception area with natural light. While the large glass panels provided an eye-catching aesthetic, it quickly became apparent that glare was a problem for those working inside the building.
Glare can be a year round problem, with the changing position of the sun and the varying angle of the resultant light making it hard to comfortably focus. An application of glare reduction window film can help reduce glare, and The Window Film Company was contacted to deliver a solution that would provide high performance glare reduction while also maintaining the stylish appearance of the building.
Glare reducing window film works by filtering out the harshest of the sunlight; working in a similar way to sunglasses – reducing the glare while still allowing for vision out. It’s available in a range of finishes, each with a different appearance and performance level. For this project it was agreed that the most suitable film would be CH8 External.
There were a number of key considerations when choosing this window film.
Glare reduction performance. This film reduces glare by up to 91%, while still allowing a view from the inside out. This performance meant that as soon as the film was in place, the glare was reduced significantly, immediately creating a more comfortable internal environment.
External application. The layout and design of the building meant that applying window film to the internal face of the glass wasn’t possible. An external grade film was therefore required.
Stylish appearance. It was vital that the chosen film gave the glass a look in keeping with its modern, contemporary look. CH8 External provides a sleek, charcoal coloured finish, providing an aesthetic that perfectly matches the style of the building.
Additional benefits. In addition to the primary requirement of cutting down on glare, the film also delivers an element of heat reduction, helping to reduce the amount of excess heat that passes through the glass. Once in place, this film will also reduce potentially harmful UV rays – rejecting up to 99% of UV rays; the biggest single contributing factor to fading.
The film was installed to 16 large panels by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert window film installers, applying film to over 116 square metres of glass. The height of the building meant that powered access was necessary, with the work completed using a cherry picker.
In addition, white vinyl was used to display the number of the building. The four digits were computer cut by The Window Film Company's print and graphics team, using sold white vinyl to deliver a durable solution and bright, vivid appearance.
Once in place, the film was effective immediately, delivering relief from glare for those inside the premises, while giving the exterior face of the building a professional, stylish and modern appearance.
