An application of heat reduction window film has delivered a more comfortable year-round environment for staff and teachers at a school in Surrey, by reducing excess heat, cutting down on glare and blocking potentially harmful UV rays – all while maintaining a daytime view from the inside out.
Windows provide a valuable function. They provide a view and allow natural light to enter buildings. However, left untreated, there can also be problematic side effects, including excess heat, year-round glare and the potential for fade damage. An application of window film is the cost-efficient and immediately effective way of tackling all these issues.
The range of heat reduction window films supplied and installed by The Window Film Company includes films with a variety of finishes, appearances and performance levels, but the way solar control window films works is primarily the same.
Solar control window film works by reflecting away a percentage of the sun’s energy (heat) before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. Overheating occurs when the internal temperature is allowed to continually build – as heat passes through glazing, it adds to the temperature. Window film will bounce away a percentage of the heat before it can pass through the glazing, reducing the build up of excess heat.
The film will also reduce glare, which due to the changing position of the sun, can be a year-round issue – bright light making it difficult and uncomfortable to focus and concentrate. An application of solar control window film will act like a pair of sunglasses for glazing, filtering out the harshest of sunlight without blocking the view.
The majority of solar control window films from The Window Film Company will also block up too 99% of UV rays – the biggest single contributing factor to fade damage, delivering a third benefit from a single application of film.
Its for these reasons that a Primary School in Surrey hired The Window Film Company to install Medium Reflective Silver solar control window film to 52 panes of glass throughout the school premises.
Medium Reflective Silver takes on a mirrored, silver external appearance during daylight hours while still allowing a view from the inside out. It will reduce excess heat by up to 67%, will cut down on glare by up to 65% and will reject up to 99% of potentially harmful UV rays.
The film was installed by a team of The Window Film Company’s fitters, with the work carried out during school holidays to ensure there was no disruption to pupils or teachers. Once in place, the film was effective immediately, giving the exterior face of the glass a stylish, contemporary appearance, while also reducing heat and glare and maintaining the daytime view from the inside out.
