BEATING HEAT AND REDUCING GLARE

Sep 23 2022

Solar control window film from The Window Film Company is a cost-effective and high-performance solution for excess heat and glare. Available in a range of finishes and performance levels, it can be retro fitted to existing glass to deliver immediate results.

Excess heat is a common issue for premises with large numbers of windows or sizeable panes and is caused by solar energy passing unchecked through glass and constantly adding to the internal temperature. During warmer weather this can quickly result in an uncomfortable internal temperature, leading to a potential increase in the use of expensive solutions such as air conditioning. Glare can be a similarly problematic issue, and can have an impact all year round. The changing position of the sun can result in light entering buildings at an awkward angle and making it difficult to comfortably focus on colleagues, screens, machinery or other equipment.

An application of solar control window film from The Window Film Company will help to alleviate both issues.

This project saw the installation of High Reflective Silver window film throughout a large facility in Milton Keynes. As the pictures illustrate, the property benefits from a huge amount of glass. This delivers a number of benefits; it creates a sleek and stylish appearance and also allows for excellent levels of light transmission, leading to a naturally bright internal feel. However, there were also significant issues when it came to heat and glare and a solution was required that would alleviate these, without negating the benefits of the glass.

High reflective Silver solar control window film has a stylish reflective external appearance during daylight hours, and its this mirrored finish that delivers the heat reduction. The film bounces away a quantity (up to 78%) before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. It can also replace glare by up to 79% and achieves both of these results without sacrificing high levels of natural light.

The film was applied to over 120 panes of varying sizes by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert fitters, with large sections of the install requiring access equipment – much of the glass was situated in large sections of roof glass.

With the window film in place, it was effective immediately, delivering both solar control and glare reduction, while still maintaining a view form the inside out during daylight hours and allowing for excellent levels of natural light to pass through the glass an into the building; all while adding a sleek, stylish and contemporary appearance to the external face of the glass.
