Fading can be a year round problem. Left unchecked, standard glazing can let potentially harmful UV rays stream through glass throughout the year, combining with heat and sunlight to cause fade damage. The Window Film Company offers a range of high performance window films to mitigate against fading.
Fading is caused by a combination of factors, and you an learn more about these on our guide to fading and UV protection. Simply put, there are three main causes of fading. These are visible light, heat, and UV light – with UV being the biggest contributing factor. This combination of factors means that the only way to stop fading completely is to block all heat, light and UV – something that can be achieved, but not without having a significant impact on the appearance of the glass. Therefore, The Window Film Company offers a range of window films, each boasting a different finish and level of performance.
One of the most popular window films for fade reduction is Clear UV. As the name suggests, the film is clear, meaning that when applied it is virtually undetectable to the naked eye. The appearance means that the film doesn’t block light or heat but does filter out up to 99% of UV rays – the biggest single contributing factor when it comes to fade damage.
For this project, the film was applied throughout a stunning manor House in Cambridge, with Clear UV fade reduction film installed by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully trained expert fitters. The ornate nature of the interior, along with the extensive collection of high end furniture and furnishings meant that some form of fade mitigation was necessary, while the classic appearance of the manor house meant that any solution couldn’t have an aesthetic impact on the appearance of the glass and the property as a whole. Clear UV struck the perfect balance, delivering immediate UV filtering without changing the appearance of the glass.
