The Window Film Company recently completed a large-scale window film installation at the world-famous Salisbury Cathedral. The project focused on the extensive glazed roof above the cathedral café and gift shop, an area made up of more than 100 large glass panels.
While the glass roof created a bright and welcoming environment with stunning views of the cathedral, it also caused excessive heat build-up and glare during warmer months. The cathedral required a solution that would improve comfort levels without reducing natural daylight or disrupting daily operations.
Requirement
The fully glazed roof allowed significant levels of solar heat and glare to enter the café and retail space. During sunny weather, temperatures inside the area increased rapidly, creating an uncomfortable environment for both staff and visitors.
The cathedral needed a professional window film solution that would:

Solution

Installation
The installation was completed over a carefully planned seven-day period, with scheduling coordinated closely between the Cathedral and The Window Film Company’s operations team.
Due to the roof design and access requirements, the film had to be applied externally using specialist installation methods suitable for large-format glazed panels. Each pane measured more than two square metres, making precision handling and installation essential throughout the project.
The work was completed without interrupting the daily running of the cathedral, café or gift shop. Once installed, the film delivered immediate improvements in internal comfort by lowering temperatures and reducing glare throughout the glazed space.
