Heat and Glare Reduction for School in Milton Keynes

The Window Film Company completed a large-scale heat reduction window film installation at a school in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The project covered 115 windows across the school, with more than 155 square metres of glazing treated, using high performance heat and glare reducing window film.

The objective was to improve comfort for students and staff by reducing excessive heat gain, glare and protecting against potentially damaging UV rays, while preserving natural light and maintaining the building's appearance.

Requirement

The school benefits from extensive glazing throughout the facility, providing bright, naturally lit learning spaces and clear views to the outside. While the expanse of glazing delivers obvious benefits, the glass can also lead to excessive heat build-up, uncomfortable glare and increased UV exposure.

School management required a solution that would:

  • Reduce excess heat build up throughout the school.
  • Minimise glare on screens, whiteboards and workspaces.
  • Block harmful UV rays and help to fight against fading.
  • Retain natural daylight and outward visibility.
  • Complement the appearance of the school building.
  • Be installed with minimal disruption to day-to-day operations.

Solution

Following conversations between school representatives and The Window Film Company, it was agreed that High reflective Silver would be the most appropriate heat and glare solution for the school.

High Reflective Silver heat protection film provides:

  • 78% total solar energy rejection.
  • 79% glare reduction.
  • 99% UV light rejection.

This combination of performance helps create a more comfortable internal environment for students and staff, while also helping to protect furnishings, equipment and interior finishes from UV-related fading.

The film's appearance, a sleek and stylish mirrored look, ensured the finished installation complemented the modern aesthetic of the school while still allowing a daytime view from the inside out.

Installation

The project involved the installation of solar control window film to 115 windows, covering more than 155 square metres of glass throughout the school.

The film was professionally applied to the internal face of the glazing by The Window Film Company's fully qualified and experienced installation teams.

All work was carefully scheduled in coordination with the school's management team and completed at pre-agreed dates and times. This planned approach ensured the installation was carried out efficiently while keeping disruption to staff, students and school activities to an absolute minimum.

Summary

By installing high performance solar control window film throughout the school, The Window Film Company successfully reduced heat, glare and UV exposure across the building while preserving natural light and external views.

The completed project has helped create a more comfortable and productive learning environment, supporting both staff and students while enhancing the long-term performance of the school's glazing.
