Improving Comfort and Privacy at Chesham Moor Gym & Lido

The Window Film Company was appointed to deliver a multi-purpose window film solution for Chesham Moor Gym & Lido as part of a major refurbishment and upgrade project.

The popular Buckinghamshire facility includes a spacious gym, outdoor swimming pool, tennis courts and café, all set within a bright, modern environment with extensive glazing. While the large areas of glass created a welcoming and light filled space, they also introduced challenges including glare, privacy concerns and the need for manifestation markings.

The Window Film Company was tasked with delivering a solution that improved comfort, maintained aesthetics and ensured compliance with building regulations.

Requirement:

The project consisted of three key elements:

Glare Reduction

The gym benefits from floor to ceiling glazing that provides panoramic views across the outdoor pool while allowing significant levels of natural light. While visually impressive, the glass created an ongoing glare issue throughout the year.

Changing sun positions and varying light intensity made it difficult for gym users and café visitors to comfortably focus. A solution was required that would reduce glare without darkening the space or losing the benefits of natural daylight.

Manifestation Markings

Large areas of glazing throughout the facility required manifestation markings to meet building regulations. These markings help ensure glass is visible to the naked eye and reduce the risk of accidental impact.

The solution needed to meet regulatory requirements while complementing the newly refurbished environment and brand identity.

Privacy Requirement

A storage area located near the swimming pool featured large glazed doors, allowing visitors to see inside. This area housed maintenance equipment and required a privacy solution that would obscure the view while maintaining a clean and modern appearance.

Solution:

Glare Reduction Window Film

To address the glare issue, Optiview 15 Solar Control Window Film was installed across the affected glazing.

Optiview 15 is a high performance solar control film designed to reduce glare by up to 86 percent while maintaining excellent internal visibility. The film features a reflective external finish that works like sunglasses for glass, filtering harsh light without making interiors feel dark.

In addition to glare reduction, the film also delivers:

  • Up to 80 percent heat reduction
  • Up to 99 percent UV protection
  • Reduced fade damage to interiors and equipment
  • Improved comfort for gym users and café visitors

This created a more comfortable environment while preserving the bright and open feel of the space.

Bespoke Manifestation Markings

The manifestation solution incorporated the facility’s newly updated logo, creating a functional and visually appealing design.

The Window Film Company’s in house graphics team computer cut the logos from silver etch frosted window film. This material provides the appearance of frosted glass while maintaining durability and a professional finish.

Logos were applied at two compliant heights across each pane of glass, ensuring building regulation compliance while reinforcing branding throughout the facility.

Privacy Window Film

For the storage area, EVOKE® Reeded Window Film was selected as the ideal privacy solution.

This film transforms standard glazing into the appearance of stylish reeded or fluted glass, obscuring views from both sides while maintaining light flow. The result delivered privacy while enhancing the modern aesthetic of the surrounding space.

Installation:

Installation was scheduled in coordination with the client to minimise disruption. The work was completed while the facility remained open, ensuring normal operations continued throughout.

The Window Film Company’s fully qualified installation team completed the project in approximately half a day, delivering a fast and efficient installation with minimal impact on visitors and staff.
