INCREASING COMFORT AND CUTTING GLARE

Dec 10 2021

Glare can be a year-round issue. If windows are left untreated, sunlight can stream through at awkward angles, making focusing on screens, colleagues, paperwork or other tasks difficult and potentially uncomfortable. Specialist window film from The Window Film Company can help reduce glare.

The Window Film Company was contacted by a College in Bedfordshire, with the brief to reduce glare while still maintaining a view from the inside out. The facility benefited from a large expanse of glazing across three floors, and while it provided excellent levels of natural light, the extensive glazing also resulted in glare, making it hard for those working inside. A solution was sought that would cut down on the unwanted glare without sacrificing high levels of natural light.

After discussions with the client, it was agreed that the ideal film for the particular set of circumstances was Optiview 15. Part of the Optiview range, these films have been specially developed to deliver excellent glare reduction (up to 84%) while also ensuring a reduced internal reflectivity, ensuring that the internal environment and aesthetic is only impacted in a positive way.

The film has a reflective external appearance during daylight hours, serving to provide the building with a contemporary and stylish look, and reduces glare by filtering out the harshest of the sun’s light. The glare reduction is effective immediately, with the film still allowing comfortable levels of natural light to pass through the glass while still allowing for a view from the inside out.

In addition to reducing glare, Optiview 15 from The Window Film Company also delivers a number of other benefits. During warmer times of year, the film will serve to reject a percentage of excess heat; the reflective element of the film serving to bounce away solar energy before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. The film will also reject up to 99% of the sun’s potentially harmful UV rays. UV is the biggest single contributing factor to fading, so by applying this film, the fading process is slowed.

An installation date was agreed with the client, with the logistics handles by the Window Film Company’s operations team. They worked closely to agree on a suitable installation date, one that would have the minimum disruption to what is a busy facility. The film was fitted on the agreed date by a team of The Window Film Company’s skilled fitting teams.

The film was applied to a total of 216 individual panes, with each piece of film carefully cut and fitted to ensure a perfect installation throughout.

The finished project saw the glare instantly reduced, with natural light and a view from the inside out maintained and a sleek and professional exterior appearance.
