Transparent Window Films for Glass

High quality see through glass films and transparent decorative window films

Transparent Window Films

Transparent films for windows are available for use in a host of different situations, providing an easy to install solution for changing the colour of your glass, adding an extra layer of safety to windows or for reducing potentially harmful UV rays.

Transparent film for glass comes in a number of different guises, each offering a different purpose and appearance. The Window Film Company offer these films on a DIY or fully installed basis, with this introduction providing an overview of what is available and what you can expect from it.

Window film from The Window Film Company is a high performance, technically advanced product that is designed to be retro fitted to existing windows and glazing. The film is usually installed to the inside face of the glass to ensure a longer useful life, but external grade films are available should an internal application not be possible. Whichever film you choose or require, installation is a straightforward process, with the full range of transparent window films for glass available on a DIY or fully installed basis.

Transparent protective film for glass

Safety window film is effectively a transparent glass covering that once applied will give glazing an extra layer of protection, initially making your glass more resistant to breakage, but with the primary function of ensuring that if your window does break, it does so safely, minimizing the chance of additional damage or injury.

Transparent safety film for windows is effective as soon as it is applied, although to achieve official, kitemarked safety glass status, the installation must be undertaken by a qualified installer. The film works by holding the glass together in the event of accidental or malicious damage, stopping the broken shards from falling away from the frame and causing damage or injury.

Transparent safety film is designed and available in a variety of thicknesses, with the thicker films offering an increased level of protection – these films are also incrementally harder to install, so for accurate advice about which transparent safety film is best for you, or for information on the application or our fitting service, please contact a member of our expert team by calling 01494 794477 or email info@windowfilm.co.uk.

Transparent coloured film for glass

Transparent coloured window film is a fantastic, cost effective way of transforming the colour of your glazing without the need for expensive replacement glass. The Window Film Company’s rainbow range of window films provides a transparent collection of bright, vibrant colours, that when applied to the glass will immediately transform the appearance without blocking the view or natural light.

As with all of the window films offered by The Window Film Company, transparent coloured films are available on a DIY or fully installed basis, with the full spectrum of coloured film also available cut to size. To order a custom created coloured film, all you’ll need are the measurements of your pane – enter them on the relevant product page and the price of your panel will be automatically displayed.

Transparent coloured window film coverings are the perfect way of achieving a stained glass effect, or simply changing the appearance of your glass to create a new decorative look. Whatever the look you wish to achieve, rainbow window film will provide you with the transparent colour you need for your glass.

Coloured vinyls are also an option for changing the colour of glass, but these are not transparent; they will change the colour of your glass to feature a solid colour but will not allow a view from either side of the glass and will also block all natural light. The properties of non transparent coloured vinyl mean it is only suitable for situations that demand a complete privacy solution.

UV protection with transparent film

Fade damage often goes unnoticed until it is too late. Caused by a combination of heat, natural light and UV rays, the effects of fading are permanent and damaging. The biggest contributing factor to the process is UV light which can pass undetected through untreated glass. An application of UV protection window film will help, serving to block around 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, preventing them from passing through your glass and causing potentially irreversible damage.

If you would like to block UV rays without having any impact on the appearance of your glass, then UV clear window film, a completely transparent UV filter film is the ideal choice. While installation of transparent UV filter glass covering will not reduce heat or glare, it will block almost all of the sun’s UV rays, helping to slow down the fading process.

Window films are available that will address both UV transmission and heat, but these films are not transparent – the most effective products will give the glass a reflective external appearance, serving to bounce away solar energy before it can pass through glass and into your premises, while still filtering out up to 99% of UV.

Decorative transparent window films

In addition to coloured transparent films, The Window Film Company offers a range of cut patterns, delivering a part transparent solution for both privacy and décor. This collection of window films is created by computer cutting beautiful designs from Frostbrite frosted window film. Frost effect window film will, as the name suggests, give glazing the appearance of acid etched, sandblasted or frosted glass once applied, delivering a translucent effect that blocks the view from both sides of the glass without sacrificing natural light. This kind of window film is very popular for meeting rooms and glass partitions in offices, especially where privacy is required but without cutting out the daylight.

The patterns are created by computer cutting the film to leave a transparent area or viewing panel, with the level of transparency totally dependent on the pattern chosen. Some designs will provide minimal transparent areas, with others offering much larger see through sections. Whichever pattern you choose, your window film will be created to meet the exact sizes you supply, meaning each panel is a completely bespoke piece of window film, made just for you and your window.

Installing transparent window films to glass

Window film relatively easy to apply and a straightforward process, with the film being specially developed to make sure that a successful fitting can be easily achieved, with no prior experience and nothing more than a few standard household items. To begin, clean your window as thoroughly as possible. Take care to remove as many imperfections or marks as possible as not only will these impact on the installation, they will also be visible if installing a transparent window film.

The next step is to create a soapy water solution by adding a few drops of washing up liquid to a plant spray bottle full of water. Use the spray bottle to cover the pane of glass in soapy water, before removing the backing sheet from your window film and doing the same to the exposed surface. With both the window and the window film covered in water, take the film to the glass and allow it to flow onto the pane. The soapy water will act as a slip solution, allowing you to position the film before using the plastic application squeegee (supplied free of charge with each order) to push the water to the edge of the pane. Use a clean, dry cloth to mop up any excess moisture and your fitting is complete!
