EXTERNAL EXCELLENCE

The summer sun is a welcome arrival for most, but the prolonged sunlight and increased temperatures can result in an uncomfortably warm interior environment, especially for premises with large expanses of windows. This was the case for an office in Sussex, whose owners contacted The Window Film Company for help.

This particular office benefitted from a run of over 30 square metres of glass, comprising 40 individual panes. Whilst the windows provided the office with a view to the exterior and excellent source of natural light, the large run of windows also resulted in the office suffering from excessive heat. An application of solar control film will provide an immediate solution to the build-up of excess heat within a building, working by reflecting away a percentage of the solar energy before it can pass through the glass and into the property.

Upon contacting The Window Film Company, the client was assigned a dedicated Account Manager who provided details on the range of film available. With a high performance solution required, it was agreed that High Reflective Silver would be the appropriate film choice. Reflective in appearance, this product rejects up to 77% of solar energy whilst still allowing a good level of natural light to pass through the glass and without sacrificing the view to the exterior.

Discussions with the client revealed that an internal application of film was not going to be possible, with immovable obstacles blocking access to the internal face of the glass. It was therefore agreed that the external version of the film would be used. A specialist product, external grade film is developed specifically for use on the outside face of glass, manufactured to tough and exacting specifications to ensure high performance, despite exposure to the elements. In addition to heat reduction, the film also reduces glare by up to 81%, serving to further increase the comfort levels inside, removing the risk of eye strain and other side effects of glare. By filtering up to 99% of the sun’s harmful UV rays, the film also provides protection against fading, considerably slowing down what can be costly damage.

Samples of the film were provided to the client, allowing for a first-hand experience of the film before purchase. With the film type agreed, an installation date was agreed and one of The Window Film Company’s experienced teams of installers were despatched to the site. With the highest windows over 4 metres from ground level, specialist access equipment was required, allowing the two man team to cut each panel of film to the exact size necessary before fitting it flawlessly to the glass.

The film was applied to all 40 panes on the elevation, providing an instant improvement to the internal environment whilst delivering a sleek, stylish appearance to the exterior.
