GETTING TO GRIPS WITH GLARE

Oct 29 2013

The bright sunshine of the summer and the low lying sun of winter mean that glare can be a year round problem. Sunlight streaming through glass at the wrong angle can make it hard to view computer screens and TVs, make it uncomfortable when attempting to read and can even make talking face to face to colleagues a chore. An application of window film can provide an immediate and long lasting solution.

The Window Film Company were contacted by a Solihull based business regarding their large, modern office. The premises benefited from a sizeable glass roof, which served to create a bright, light and airy environment, but the big expanse of glass also resulted in a serious problem with glare.

Employees and visitors to the premises were finding it hard to view the large screens on display in the office reception, and an urgent solution was sought
.
High Reflective Silver window film is a long lasting and versatile film that offers a range of benefits. Available in both internal and external grades, the film cuts out up to 81% of glare, immediately easing strain on the eye in glazed areas in direct sunlight. In cutting out glare, the film still allows a good quantity of natural light to pass through the glass, allowing premises to reap the benefits of a glare-free environment without sacrificing light levels.

High Reflective Silver will also block up to 99% of the suns potentially harmful UV rays. Continued exposure to UV rays will cause fading, so an application of window film will also prevent damage to flooring, furnishings and equipment.

With the roof over 7 metres from the ground, the installation took place using a scaffold tower and the timing of the install had been carefully planned to take place at a time when potential disruption would be kept to a minimum. The Window Film Company’s teams of installers are fully qualified in every aspect of the fitting process, including being  PASMA trained, meaning they are able to safely and efficiently carry out installations at height and in other potentially awkward locations. In this instance the glazing covered an area of over 56 square metres, a substantial amount of glass. This meant that the job was completed over two days, a careful and methodical approach ensuring the best possible finish.

The completed job had the immediate desired effect, with all in the building able to focus on display screens and each other without straining their eyes. The modern lighting in the area enhanced the appearance of the film, the upgraded glass perfectly matching the contemporary, sleek and modern feel of the building.

Having been operating for 15 years The Window Film Company have a wealth of experience in delivering large scale projects, with the staff, facilities, equipment and processes to provide window film solutions whatever the size and complexity of the job.
