PART TIME PRIVACY FOR PRIME TIME TV

Jun 06 2014

The Window Film Company have vast experience in the supply and installation of privacy window films, with privacy required for a wide variety of reasons. A recent installation was the first time we’ve been asked to obscure the view of a fight on the motorway, however…

The Window Film Company were approached by a production company who were in the middle of creating a new drama series for the BBC. A scene from the programme featured a fight scene on a motorway overpass, and the production company wanted to ensure that the action wasn’t visible from the road as the activity would have provided a dangerous distraction to drivers.

Whilst it was clearly important to block the view from the road, it was equally important to ensure that a view was maintained from the inside out. For filming purposes the window film had to allow a good level of natural light into the walkway, whilst also being as hard as possible to detect. With this information in mind, The Window Film Company was able to suggest a reflective privacy film.

High Reflective Silver provides one-way daytime privacy, by giving one side of the glass a mirrored appearance. This prevents vision through the glass, whilst from the other side of the glass the view is maintained along with a high level of natural light transmission. These attributes made the film perfect for this installation, with the inside of the walkway shielded from view from the outside, whilst delivering perfect filming conditions inside.

With the film choice agreed, a site visit was undertaken to ensure a full understanding of the location and the logistics involved. Filming schedules meant that the film would have to be applied to a strict deadline and then removed, restoring the walkway back to its original state ahead of it being reopened and used by the public.

With the work needing to be completed quickly, the installation was carried out by three of The Window Film Company’s expert installation teams whose experience allowed them to fit the required 160 panels (each 1m x 1.8m) in time for filming to commence. The installation began at 5am in the morning, meaning the work was complete for the fimoning to commence in the late morning. A full day's filming was carried out, before the fitting teams returned early the next morning to remove the film, returning the glass to the original state with the public driving below none the wiser.
