HOWZAT FOR MANIFESTATION?

Jul 03 2015

Advances in window film print and cut technology means that it is increasingly easy to translate creativity into reality, allowing customers to add style and personality to glazing in a range of situations. Themed manifestation is a popular example of what can be achieved with a bit of imagination, with an install at a Kent based cricket club providing the ideal example.

Manifestation markings are required on glass of a certain size in specific locations. The markings are a legislative requirement, ensuring glass that could otherwise be difficult to see, is clearly visible. Building regulations dictate a minimum size and the location of the markings, but as long as these basic requirements are met, manifestation can take on any appearance.

Dartford cricket club boasts a fantastic home ground, with a large pavilion overlooking the playing surface. The front of the structure features a run of floor to ceiling windows, allowing those inside to enjoy a  fabulous view of the sport unfolding below. The size of these panes meant that manifestation was necessary and The Window Film Company was approached to create and install a bespoke design.

Standard manifestation can take the form of dots, squares or solid bands, but in a location dedicated to the playing of cricket it made sense that the manifestation theme made reference to the sport. With this in mind, a range of specially designed graphics were supplied, with the intention for them to flow across over 26 linear metres of glass.

Manifestation requirements are usually met using The Window Film Company’s Frostbrite frosted film, the appearance of the product providing the necessary contrast to make the glass apparent in a sleek and stylish fashion. It was agreed that the design, featuring full sets of stumps and cricket balls, would be cut from Frostbrite, ensuring manifestation legislation would be met whilst also creating a professional looking and aesthetically pleasing addition to the glass.

All graphics and print jobs are managed by The Window Film Company’s in-house print team, who upon receipt of the graphics provided proofs of each panel to the client. Care was taken to ensure that the pattern flowed perfectly along the glass frontage, with appropriate allowances made for the gaps and frames between each pane. With the proofs approved, each piece was computer cut before being carefully hand-finished to deliver a flawless finish.

The manifestation was fitted by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained installation teams, who operate nationwide. The completed work ensured the facility met all manifestation legislation whilst also serving to give the building some added personality and sporting style.
