CATERING FOR COLLEGE

Dec 02 2016

The beauty of frosted window film is that it can be used for a multitude of purposes. An installation at a Surrey based College provided an excellent example of this, with the film used to meet two separate requirements.

The work was carried out at a fully operational training restaurant in the catering department at Brooklands College and was required to meet both privacy and branding requirements. The facility benefits from a number of windows, and for the benefit of those working and dining inside it was decided that an element of privacy was required. It was also decided that to give the restaurant an added air of authenticity and professionalism, any film applied should feature the facility name – Brooks Brasserie and Restaurant.

It was agreed that the film used would be Frostbrite frosted window film. Once applied to the glass, this durable and stylish film gives glazing the contemporary appearance of acid etched or sandblasted glass, blocking the view without sacrificing natural light. Another benefit of this film is that it can be computer cut to create logos and other graphics, perfect for highlighting the name of the College restaurant.

The College supplied the artwork and the measurements of each of the 18 panes of glass, allowing The Window Film Company’s in house graphics department to create each panel. The film was to be applied to the internal face of the glass (we always recommend this approach where possible as it delivers the longest possible functional life for the film) which meant that the graphics had to be reverse cut to ensure they showed correctly on the outside.

Each panel was computer cut before being finished and checked by hand, with each panel carefully weeded to ensure the graphical element was perfect and each pane was the correct size. The dedicated operations team then liaised with the College to organise a suitable time and date for installation, with the work carried out by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and vastly experienced fitting teams.

Once complete, the film delivered an element of privacy, providing comfort for those dining and studying or working within the facility. The nature of the Frostbrite film combined with the cut logo meant that a naturally light and airy environment was maintained, whilst the incorporating of graphics gave the restaurant an impressive and professional looking finish.
