THE HEIGHT OF FASHION

Nov 04 2016

The Window Film Company has transformed the appearance of a London gallery as part of an exciting exhibition by fashion designer Molly Goddard.

The interactive exhibition is taking place at the Now gallery in November, and will feature enormous, oversize dresses hung from the ceiling that visitors will be invited to add their own embroidery to. The incredible dresses were suspended at the front of the gallery, before three large panels of glass, each 7 metres in height. It was these panes that were the focus of the work.

The exhibition required that each of the three 7 x 2.5m panels of glass were transformed to give the appearance of coloured glazing. It was important that each window appeared bright and vivid, but it was equally vital that light was allowed to pass through the glass and that vision wasn’t obscured.

The solution was The Window Film Company’s rainbow range of coloured film. Available in a wide spectrum of vivid shades, once applied the film will instantly change the appearance of the glass, giving it the look of brightly coloured glazing. The transparent nature of the film means that the view from either side of the glass isn’t impeded, allowing the exhibits to be clearly visible from the outside of the gallery, with natural light also allowed to flood into the gallery.

The size of the panes meant that access equipment was required for the installation, whilst the film dimensions meant that it would have to be fitted with a join. The Window Film Company’s teams of fitters are hugely experienced and fully qualified, making them able to carry out the installation at height with no difficulty, but also to complete the fitting without any obvious join, thus ensuring the desired professional and impressive finish.

The work was carried out over the period of a single day, with the film installed well ahead of the exhibition build; totally transforming the gallery, which is set in the shadow of the O2 arena, into a bright and colourful space.

The film is a durable and long lasting product, but on this occasion it was a temporary measure – installed just for the duration of the exhibition. With the show over, the film could be removed quickly, with the glass returned to its original state with the minimum of fuss.
