HELP WITH THE HEAT

The Window Film Company supplies and installs window film designed to help with excess heat, to reduce glare and to filter potentially harmful UV rays. A window film that delivers all three of these benefits was fitted to a large sports hall at a school in Northamptonshire.

The facility features a large number of sizable panes, located at ground and first floor level and while these windows provide obvious benefits – excellent levels of natural light and an uninterrupted view to the outside – the location of the glazing was causing issues with excess heat and glare.

Left untreated, windows can result in the internal temperature increasing rapidly to uncomfortable levels, increasing reliance on cooling systems or requiring the shutting of curtains or blinds. Air conditioning is an expensive solution, while closing blinds can remove the benefits of having windows in the first place as they block the light and the view. This project saw the application of High Reflective Silver window film to over 20 large panels throughout the facility. The film was installed to the internal face of the glass by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully qualified and vastly experienced fitters, using scaffolding to reach the panes at the higher levels.

The film takes on a silver external appearance during daylight hours, and it’s this mirrored effect that serves to deliver the solar control, bouncing away a percentage of the sun’s energy (heat) before it can pass through the glass and into the facility. It doesn’t block all heat, so will never make a room too cold, instead reducing the levels of excess heat. The film will also reduce glare by up to 79% and will block 99% of potentially harmful UV rays. All this is achieved without blocking excessive levels of natural light, while still maintaining a view from the inside out during daylight hours.
