STOREFRONT SAFETY

The Window Film Company offers a range of solutions to add an extra layer of safety and security for glazing. This can range from standard safety film to sophisticated bomb blast solutions.

This project saw the application of two different types of safety and security film to an O2 retail outlet in Central London, providing the premises with an invisible layer of protection against accidental and malicious damage.

Glass shopfronts provide huge advantages for retailers. They provide a view into the premises, providing passers by with a look at the interior, while also allowing for natural light to pass through and into buildings, providing a pleasant internal environment. They also provide an excellent surface on which to add branded elements and signage (The Window Film Company can help with this, too - our in-house graphics and print team provide bespoke graphics for glass and other surfaces - call us for more information!) Glass can also be a weak point however, and remains at risk of damage of either an accidental or deliberate nature.

The film applied to the glass frontage of this store was a combination of 100 Micron and 200 Micron Security Film. The films differ in thickness, with the 200 Micron film providing a thicker barrier than the 100 Micron, while both operating in the same way.

Both films are clear in nature, which means once in place, they are virtually undetectable. This is an important consideration for shopfronts as it maintains the view in and out of the store, and ensures the required protection for glass without blocking the natural light.

The film works in two ways. Firstly, it makes the glass harder to break. The added layer means that the glass is less susceptible to accidental breakage and can also make it more resistant to more deliberate attack. The thicker the film, the harder the glass will be to break. If the glass does fracture or break, the film serves another valuable purpose, preventing the glass from shattering into dangerous shards and falling in on themselves. These shards are obviously dangerous, so preventing them from falling away from the frame delivers a clear safety benefit. This also means that, with the broken glass kept in place in the frame, gaining unauthorised access via broken glass is significantly harder to achieve.

The film was applied across 30 square metres of glass, with the shop front divided into 24 panels, with the work carried out by a team of The window Film Company’s fully qualified and vastly experienced installers.

Safety and security requirements vary from premises to premises and from location to location, so it’s important that before deciding on a window film solutions, expert advice is obtained. This can be done by calling a member of our team on 01494 794477 or by emailing info@windowfilm.co.uk.
