RECTIFYING ROOFLIGHT EXCESS HEAT

Heat reduction window film is a simple but highly effective way of cutting down on excess heat. But how does it work? Most solar control films have a reflective appearance, and it’s this mirrored look that serves to bounce away a percentage of heat before it is allowed to pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. A straightforward process that delivers an excellent performance.

The Window Film Company were engaged by a Buckinghamshire based College to install such window film at one of their campuses, where a large expanse of rooflights were resulting in the facility experiencing high temperatures during spells of warmer weather.

The requirement was for the highest performing window film that was suitable for application to the external face of the glass, which is external grade High Reflective Silver. Specially developed to offer increased resistance to weather and the elements, this window film will reduce excess heat by up to 78%, while also delivering the added benefits of cutting down on glare and blocking up to 99% of potentially harmful UV rays – the biggest single contributing factor to fade damage.   

All of these benefits were delivered without blocking the view from the inside out or sacrificing high levels of natural light – two of the main reasons for having rooflights in the first place.

The film was applied to the external face of the glazing by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert fitters, applying the film to 18 large panels.

Once the film was in place, it was effective immediately, reflecting away a portion of the sun’s solar energy (heat) before it could pass through the glass, while also reducing glare and protecting against UV rays – a trio of benefits that combine to create a more enjoyable year round internal environment.
