Window film is a cost-efficient and effective way of combatting excess heat. The Window Film Company supplies and installs a wide range of such heat reduction window films, including those suitable for external application, as used for this project.
Heat reduction window film, also known as solar control film is designed to be retro-fitted to glass, and wherever possible, it is installed to the internal face of the glass. Sometimes, usually due to access issues, this isn’t possible. In these instances, The Window Film Company will use a specially developed window film that has been created specifically for external use – one that has a greater resistance to weather and the outside elements. It was this type of film that was used in this job, to reduce excess heat at a popular Community Centre in Cambridge.
Uncomfortable internal temperatures are common during warmer spells of weather, when sunlight passes unchecked through glazing, steadily adding to and raising the temperature. Closing blinds or curtains is not only ineffective (it still allows the heat to pass through the glass) but it also blocks natural light and the view from the inside out. Air conditioning is a larger scale solution but is expensive to install and run, as well as having an environmental impact. Solar control window film is cost efficient, instantly effective, doesn’t block excessive levels of natural light and allows for a daytime view from the inside out. It’s easy to see why it is such a popular choice!
The film works by reflecting away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy (heat) before it can pass through the glass and add to the internal temperature. By reducing the amount of heat that is able to pass through glass, the film ensures that excess heat is significantly reduced. This is achieved while maintaining the daytime view from the inside out and without sacrificing high levels of natural daylight.
The film also delivers the added benefit of blocking up to 99% of potentially harmful UV rays (the biggest single contributing factor to fading) while also reducing glare by up to 83%.
The film has a reflective external appearance and this fit in perfectly with the modern design of the building. The film was applied by a team of The Window Film Company’s expert installers, fitting the film to the external face of the glazing, at which point it was effective immediately, beginning to reduce heat, slow down fading and cut down on glare. One installation – three valuable benefits.
