Making a Mark With Manifestation

Manifestation markings are often an afterthought, one of the last boxes to be ticked when carrying out an office fit-out or refurbishment. We understand it; there are often bigger aspects of a project to deal with, but manifestation may offer you more of an opportunity than you might initially think. Take this recent print and installation as an example. Not only are building regulations met, but the markings deliver an added element of style and privacy. We’re here to help you make the most of manifestation…

Building regulations dictate that glass of a certain size must display markings that serve to make the glass immediately visible and obvious to the naked eye. These are known as manifestation markings and must be present at two locations on the glass, be of a minimum size and created from a material that provides a visual contrast between the glass and the background.

The Window Film Company has years of experience in the creation and installation of manifestation, with recent years seeing an increase in creative ways of meeting these requirements. This project in Basildon provides the perfect example of what can be achieved, meeting manifestation guidelines while also adding a new element of privacy and style to an office environment.

While building regulations do set out stringent requirements for manifestation, there is no restriction on how the guidelines are met, providing scope for creativity. In this instance it was decided that any manifestation solution should also deliver an element of privacy while also adding a new company brand inspired decorative appearance to the glazing and the premises.

After consultation between an account manager from The Window Film Company and the client, it was agreed that the custom created design (a striking repeated pattern comprised of angular shapes in the company colours) would be recreated by printing directly onto a band of Frostbrite frosted film.

Frostbrite provides the perfect material for manifestation for a number of reasons. Firstly, it’s long lasting and durable. It’s appearance (once applied it gives glazing the appearance of acid etched or sandblasted glass) provides the necessary contrast while also delivering the privacy required and the ideal surface on which to print custom graphics.

The bespoke artwork was provided by the client to The Window Film Company’s dedicated graphics team, who were able to print and prepare the 17 panels ahead of installation. Care had to be taken to take into account the gap between each large panel, ensuring that the pattern flowed perfectly from pane to pane throughout the office.

Fitted by a team of The Window Film Compamny's expert installers, the end result was a manifestation solution that provided an added element of privacy, while also playing a significant part in giving the office a sleek, stylish and professional new look.
