Print on Optically Clear for Montefiore Hospital

The Window Film Company offer a RIBA approved CPD presentation, and it was during one of these 60 inute sessions that Joe Bloggs from Blogs and Co Architects recognised he had found the solution to a long-standing problem…

As part of a fit-out at the Montefiore Hospital in Brighton, the Architect wanted to feature a design on a number of glass partitions, partly for decorative purposes and partly to provide an element of privacy. Before encountering The Window Film Company, no-one had been able to reproduce the quality and finish required; a combination of subtle colour and opacity.

By using in-house UV print facilities, The Window Film Company were able to confirm that they could produce the exact look required and upon receipt of the artwork produced an A3 sized working sample. The sample was approved, along with a detailed quote which included provision for the supply of a full size sample panel.

The sample panel was applied to the glass on site, and this confirmed that the design needed to be amended in order to provide the necessary privacy. The architect amended the plans, and The Window Film Company used this time to survey the site, taking precise measurements to ensure that the design was printed and cut to the exact proportions required.

To ensure the intricate design was recreated perfectly, it was printed onto optically clear film. This is a specialist service carried out using a state of the art UV printer, that once complete gives the impression that the design is cut out. The Window Film Company use only the highest quality inks and films, to ensure that the finish is as high quality as is possible and the high standards set by the in-house graphics team mean that the printers are used to print at high quality, not at high speed and turnaround times are always agreed to allow print at the highest possible standard.

With printing complete, the Operations team began work on organising the installation. The film was to be fitted to a Chemotherapy ward, meaning that it would have to be handled sensitively.  A two day installation was agreed, with the fitting taking place during less busy times, specifically requested by the hospital.

The work was carried out by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained installation teams, who are vastly experienced in dealing with glass partition systems and door mechanisms – experience which was called upon in this instance, with numerous handles and fixings being removed and replaced during the fitting process, to allow a perfect finish throughout.

Once installed, the project was clearly a success. The bespoke design provided the necessary privacy, whilst also helping to create a peaceful, calming and tranquil environment. The staff at the hospital were quick to voice their approval, praising the professional installation as well as the finished product.

This was a fine example of The Window Film Company using high quality products to provide a solution to what had been a long standing problem. A continued commitment to professionalism  meant that potential issues were avoided in advance by providing a range of samples, whilst the survey highlighted any issues the fitters were likely to face, allowing them to arrive on site fully prepared and able to carry out a perfect installation with the minimum of intrusion.
