Save and protect!

When a sizeable new hotel opened in Manchester city centre, it’s unlikely that the owners would have envisaged not wanting regular visitors. However, when those regular visitors are there to replace broken panes of expensive glass, damaged by stones kicked up by passing traffic, it’s a different story. Enter The Window Film Company...

The hotel benefits from a central location, with a stylish glass frontage - the large windows providing a modern, contemporary and welcoming look as well as creating a natural light filled internal environment, but these advantages were being regularly negated. Passing vehicles - a bus lane ran directly outside the front of the building - were continually sending stones and other debris towards the glass and causing irreparable damage. The speed at which stones were hitting the glass meant the panes were chipping and fracturing, necessitating disruptive, time consuming and expensive replacements.

The Window Film Company was able to offer a cost effective and straightforward solution.

Impact resistant window film is a completely clear, specialist window film that provides an invisible yet strong protective layer, shielding glass from accidental or malicious damage. The film works by absorbing and dispersing the impact and is specifically designed for fast moving and small pieces of debris such as stones propelled by passing traffic.

In addition to protecting the expensive glazing, the film also delivers protection against fading by filtering out 99.9% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. With UV the biggest contributing factor to the fading process, the installation meant the soft furnishings; flooring and upholstery inside the hotel were protected.

The installation process is completed with a specially formulated scratch resistant coating, ensuring the longest possible lifetime of the product. This coating also means that the appearance of the glass is maintained, with the coating resulting in a gleaming finish that clears quickly and cleanly in the event of rainfall. The work was completed by a team of The Window Film Company's experienced and fully qualified installers, who fitted the film meticulously to the external face of the glazing.

With the project complete, the new protective layer was completely imperceptible to passers-by and visitors, while for the hotel owners, constant worries about the glass being broken, and the need for expensive replacement panes were immediately a thing of the past.
