Don't fret about fade!

You may be forgiven for thinking that the darker, colder days of winter mean that fading is less of an issue. You’d be wrong. Without acting, your flooring and upholstery is at risk of irreversible damage, so allow us to set the record straight and explain how you can protect against this potentially costly and unsightly damage.

Fading is an incredibly frustrating issue. It can cause serious harm to floors and upholstery, but the incremental nature of the process often means that by the time you’ve noticed, it’s too late and the damage is done. To protect against fading, the first step is to fully understand what causes it. Here comes the science bit…

The causes of fading

Fading is caused by a combination of four factors. UV light, Visible light, heat and other atmospheric conditions. The biggest contributing factor is UV light, and it’s this element that can almost completely be eliminated with an application of window film. Depending on the type of film chosen, heat and light can be reduced too, but there is a balance to be struck between aesthetic finish and performance…

What can I do to stop it?

Simply put, the only way to stop fading completely (unfortunately) is to block up your windows. Wherever there is sunlight, there will be an element of heat and both of these factors can eventually cause a degree of fading. An application of window film will help manage these factors and mitigate against the effects of fading.

How will window film help?

There are a number of popular window films when it comes to fighting fading. Often referred to as “museum film” our specialist Clear UV window film is designed to block virtually all UV Light (it rejects 99% of UV) without altering the appearance of your glass. The benefit of this technically advanced film is that it will slow down the fading process and your windows will look exactly the same; the film will be virtually undetectable.

If you are looking for a window film that will block the UV and have an impact on heat and light, then there are a number of options. The most effective is our High Reflective Silver window film. This product has a reflective appearance which serves to bounce away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy (heat) before it has a chance to enter your home and add to the fading issue. It will also filter out the harshest of the light, tackling another factor in fading. This high performance film will also reject 99% of UV Light.

In summary, fading is a tricky one to tackle, but it can be done and window film is a cost efficient, effective solution with a ranges of finishes available.
