Subtle safety

Glass can be a fragile material. Whether it is accidental or malicious, damage can be costly disruptive and potentially dangerous. An application of window film is a cost efficient and effective way of mitigating against the pitfalls of breakage and can be applied with the minimum of fuss, without altering the appearance of glazing. Read on for more information about how a layer of window film can give you or your client’s leave of mind, without affecting the aesthetics.

Windows and glass panels are popular for a reason. They provide a sleek and stylish look; deliver a view into and out of a property while also providing natural light. Safety and security window film can be retro-fitted to glazing and be effective immediately without having an impact on any of these benefits.

 How does it work?

To be clear, safety and security window film isn’t designed to prevent glass from breaking. We offer a range of performance levels, with thicker films that will certainly make it harder to break your glass, under sustained attack, filmed glass will ultimately break. While the film, whichever grade you choose, will make the glass more resistant to damage, it’s designed to ensure that if the glazing does break, it does so safely. This is done by holding the glass together in the frame, preventing it from falling in on itself.

 Safety

If untreated glass breaks, it shatters into sharp fragments and falls away from the frame, immediately posing a serious threat to anyone nearby. Sharp shards of glass can also cause damage to equipment and furnishings, making broken glass not only hazardous, but potentially costly. By holding broken glass in place, window film mitigates against this.

Security

Once installed, window film will make film harder to break, in turn making it harder to gain unauthorised or criminal access to premises by smashing windows and forcing entry. Breaking filmed glass will take longer, which in itself can act as a deterrent, while if the glass does succumb and break, it will be kept in position by the film - forming another barrier to trespass or criminal entry.

Safety window film can be fitted to glazing in-frame; there is no need to remove the glass. When fitted by our qualified installers, safety window film can also bring glazing up to safety standard when required, meeting standard BS EN 12600 (previously known as BS62060
