Take Action in Autumn

There’s no point denying that Autumn is upon us, but had you considered that this time of year is one of the best to act when it comes to solar control solutions for your clients?

Short lead times combined with a number of year-round benefits, means that there has never been a better time to go ahead.

Solar control film is designed to be retro-fitted to existing glazing, providing an instantly effective answer to overheating. With a straightforward installation process, a fitting can take place with the minimum of disruption (projects can usually be completed without shutting premises) and is a far more cost-efficient solution than air conditioning and a more effective answer than blinds.

How does solar control film work?

While window film is a hugely effective product, the way it works is straightforward. Usually applied to the internal face of the glass (external grades of film are also available) the film works by giving the outer surface of glazing a reflective appearance. This effect serves to bounce away a percentage of the sun’s solar energy before it can enter premises and add to the steady build-up of heat.

The amount of solar energy reflected will depend on the type of film chosen, with the highest performing window films form our range rejecting over 75%. It’s important to note that an application of film won’t make the interior feel unduly cold; on a warm day, the benefits will still be felt inside, with the film serving to prevent the build up of excess heat, stopping premises from being uncomfortable and unpleasant.

Unlike blinds (or curtains) window film doesn’t let excess heat pass through the glass (blinds are set back from the glass and even when shut will simply serve to trap heat inside) and also doesn’t block the view from the inside out. Neither does solar control film sacrifice natural light; perhaps the easiest way to visualise the impact is to imagine placing a light pair of sunglasses over windows.

There are a host of films to choose from, each with a different level of performance and each with a different aesthetic finish; to get guidance on what will work best for you or your client, call a member of our expert team on 01494 794477 or email info@windowfilm.co.uk.

Year-round benefits

It isn’t just the height of summer that sees solar control window film come into its own. Glare can be an issue all year round, with sunlight shining through untreated glass to make it difficult to comfortably focus on screens, colleagues or tasks, with he ever changing location and angle of the sun making it a traditionally tricky problem to tackle. Closing blinds or curtains will cut out the glare, but will also block light and the view. Solar control window film will reduce glare by up to 79%, helping to deliver a more comfortable and enjoyable environment for all inside.

Our window films will also block up too 99% of the suns UV rays. Ultra Violet light can be damaging in a number of ways, but the most widespread issue it causes is fading. UV rays combine with heat and light to cause fade damage to furniture, upholstery and equipment, with the damage often being undetected until it is too late.

Solar control, glare reduction and assistance in fighting fading – three benefits from one straightforward installation.
