The graphics can be produced in a number of different ways to deliver a different look and performance, with one thing in common – a visually striking finish.
The most frequently used method is called Contra Vision Performance. The likelihood is that you’ll have seen examples of this on an almost daily basis as it is commonly used on trains, trams or buses. The one-way effect is achieved by printing onto a pre perforated film. The image is printed onto the face of the film, whilst the reverse is left blank. When viewing the film from the outside, the eye will naturally focus on the printed image, whilst when looking from the inside, the eye will gravitate to the perforated holes in the film. The eye will perform a bit of natural magic, “filling in the gaps” to provide an excellent view to the outside.
It’s also now possible to create one-way graphics without using perforated film. The Contra Vision Impress method delivers by printing several layers of ink, starting with the image in CMYK, followed by a layer of white before finishing with a layer of black. This technique delivers not only sturdy, robust and long lasting film, but also allows for a double-design, with a different image visible on each side of the glass.
The third Contra Vision technique addresses a problem that can occur when there is a lack of natural light. Backlite uses a perforated window film with a translucent white backing. The image or graphics is printed onto the surface of the film, which is then applied in the normal fashion. The film comes into its own during darker periods, when the backing enhances any internal light, delivering a stunning back lit effect.
This is a brief overview of how each technique works and we hope it has given you food for thought. We’re sure you’ve got more questions about exactly what can be achieved however, so please feel free to give us a call.
