The Window Film Company stocks and installs a range of solar control films, designed to help to maintain a moderate temperature in your premises. The film works by reflecting away solar energy before it can pass through the glass and into the room, making it far more effective than blinds or curtains. “Why would I fit solar control film when the temperatures are on the way down?” we hear you ask. Well, read on…
Glare Reduction
During the winter months, the low lying position of the sun can make glare a serious issue. In workplace environments it can be hard to comfortably focus on screens, machinery or colleagues. At home it could make it hard to read or to see the TV, whilst in retail outlets it can make it uncomfortable for your customers. This can often lead to the closing of blinds or curtains which, in turn, blocks both the view and natural light.
An application of window film can result in a reduction in glare of up to 80%, with some films delivering even greater reductions. The film works by acting as a filter, cutting out the harsh elements of the sunlight whilst still maintaining the view from the inside out and allowing natural light to pass through the glass. Once applied, glare reduction is effective immediately.
Fade Protection
Fading takes place undetected, often going unnoticed until it is too late. It is caused by three main factors – light, heat and, the biggest contributor, UV light. Window film can help to reduce the fading process (it isn’t possible to stop fading completely without blacking out your window) by blocking 99% of the sun’s UV rays. Fading can affect upholstery, furnishings and equipment all year round. You can protect against it with window film.
It’s already cold, will it make it colder?
So you’ve applied your film and the glare and threat of fading is reduced. Great. The only problem is, it’s already cold outside. Won’t applying solar control film during winter make it feel colder inside? The answer is no. The film works by stopping the steady build-up of excess heat during the day, not by cutting it out completely. In short, applying window film won't make your premises feel any colder during the winter months.
Will it make it dark?
When applying film to your glass, you will by definition be changing the appearance to a degree. The technology in the film works by reflecting away solar energy and filtering harsh light, but it won’t make your property feel dark. As with untreated glass, on a bright day your room will feel bright, benefiting from the natural light entering through the glass. On a gloomy day, it will feel less so. Rest assured that by installing solar control film to your glass, you won’t be sacrificing the light.
So there you have it. Solar control film isn’t just for summer! If you’d like to learn more about the options available and the benefits it will provide, please contact a member of the team by calling 01494 794477 or email info@windowfilm.co.uk
