Safety
You may not be aware, but glass of a certain size in certain locations is required to meet a minimum safety standard. This generally applies to full height glass, with the full regulations detailed in Building Regulations Approved Document K. Alternatively check out the safety section of our website.
The regulation is in place to ensure that if glass does break, it does so in a safe fashion. Window film from The Window Film Company is the ideal way of making sure your glass measures up. Normally applied internally, safety film is available in a number of different finishes and thicknesses with the see through product the most popular variation. Once installed, the film is effective immediately and works by holding the glass together in the event of breakage.
While the film will provide an extra barrier, it isn’t designed as a protective product. By holding the shards together if the glass is broken, it serves a safety purpose, ensuring that dangerous shards don’t fall inwards and cause injury or damage. Once fitted by one of The Window Film Company’s expert installers, your glass will be upgraded to meet the standard EN 12600 (previously known as BS 6206).
Security
An added layer of security can be delivered in two main ways: by creating privacy (blocking a view to the inside of a property) or by adding an extra protective layer onto the glass, making it harder to break and remove from the frame.
The Window Film Company offers a wide range of privacy options, including daytime one-way vision film and solid colours. Both can be used to prevent passers-by or potential intruders from seeing into your property and therefore hiding your belongings and equipment from view.
If you’d like to add an extra layer of security while maintaining two-way vision, specialist security film will help. The film, which is available in a range of different thicknesses, works by providing an extra barrier and then if the glass does break, holding the fractured glass together in the frame, making it very difficult for criminals to gain unauthorised access through your windows.
Both safety and security film can be applied in conjunction with other window films to deliver additional benefits such as solar control and glare reduction.
Additional protection
In some unfortunate instances, additional protection is required. The Window Film Company is a fully trained and authorised supplier of Madico bomb-blast protection films and attachment systems – one of the most comprehensive and trusted bomb-blast protection solutions available. As with standard films, these systems can be retro-fitted – there is no need for expensive glass replacement.
