The outlet in question benefitted from large windows at the front and side of the property, allowing customers an uninterrupted view to the interior, while also adding to the stylish aesthetic. The issue was the potential for accidental or malicious damage, with a breakage or more serious incident providing a potentially dangerous and damaging situation.
There were a total of six large windows, with the largest almost 4 metres wide. Each of the panes was over 2 metres in height, with three widows featuring previously installed film that required removal.
After discussions with the client it was agreed that 200 Micron safety film would be installed to the glass. The film works by holding the glass together in the event of breakage, preventing the shards from separating and falling in on themselves.
The film also serves as a security feature. Untreated glass is easier to break in order to gain unauthorised access to a property, while glazing that has window film applied will still ultimately break, but will be much more difficult to remove from the frame, thus making it harder to use broken glass as an access point.
An additional consideration when choosing this product was the appearance. An unobstructed view to the inside was vital, while it was equally important that the aesthetic balance of the property wasn’t affected in any way. With this in mind, it was critical to utilise a film with a neutral appearance. 200 micron safety film is an optically clear product, making it virtually undetectable when applied.
The existing film was stripped by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully qualified installers, before the new protective film was applied to the internal side of the glass. Due to the size of the main window, a join was required to ensure full coverage. In conjunction with the shop owners it was agreed where this join should take place, with the installers using their skill and experience to make sure the join was as concealed as possible.
With the work complete, the glass looked completely unchanged to the uninitiated. The truth however, was that each pane had been upgraded to meet safety standards and to deliver piece of mind for the owner and protection for staff and visitors.
