Get animated with The Window Film Company

With a high profile new store opening on London’s world famous Leicester Square, The Window Film Company were approached during the fit-out process to provide a temporary solution that would deliver both privacy and raise awareness of the impending opening.

The location in question was undergoing a huge transformation, with a complete internal refurbishment taking place. With a huge number of shoppers frequenting the area on a daily basis, it was important that this extensive work was shielded from view. The privacy was required from a security point of view, whilst it was equally important that the impact of the opening wasn’t diluted by members of the public seeing into the store in advance of the official opening.

Whilst the privacy element was an important part of the project, the ability to raise awareness and promote the brand of the new store was equally vital. With this in mind, it was agreed that a low-tack vinyl would be used, the qualities of the film making it perfect for this particular job. Vinyl blocks vision from both sides of the glass, whilst the low-tack nature of this specialist product means it is easy to remove from glazing when the work is complete – ensuring the windows could quickly be returned to their original state ahead of the opening. The final benefit of the film is that it provides the ideal surface for printing onto, allowing The Window Film Company to recreate large scale full colour graphics.

A site survey was undertaken, with each window measured and access assessed. The survey revealed there was a total of 61 panes of glass with a combined size of over 120 square metres, whilst with a number of the panes located at height it became clear that a scaffolding system would be required as part of the installation. It also revealed that the installation would see the film applied to the external side of the glass.

The artwork was bright, colourful and bold, leaving passers-by in no doubt as to the identity of the new store, and this was supplied to The Window Film Company’s in-house graphics and print team for preparation. Each piece of artwork was matched to a pane of glass, with proofs created for each individual window. With the proofs signed off, printing was undertaken, using a state of the art UV printer. All printing is carried out at the Company’s Buckinghamshire headquarters, allowing for continual quality control and a fast response to any issues or tight deadlines.

With each panel printed and checked, the film was installed by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and experienced fitting teams. The work was completed quickly and efficiently, with the finished job giving the premises an impressive and eye-catching appearance, providing the necessary privacy whilst also announcing the imminent arrival of the store, raising awareness and generating additional interest.
