Whatever the location of glass, there is always a risk of breakage. Whether it is a shopfront, glass partition, residential window or office tower block, damage can be caused by something as small as a stone kicked up by passing traffic or by more serious examples such as vandalism or unrest.
Safety
Understandably, the main concern when glass breaks is the safety of those in the immediate vicinity. An application of safety window film will help ensure that if glass does break, it does so in a way that is much less likely to cause injury. This is achieved by holding the glass together, the film serving to keep the broken glass in one large piece instead of allowing it to splinter and fall in on itself.
Safety window film is available in a range of thicknesses and is virtually undetectable once installed, making it suitable for application to shopfronts and other forms of glazing when an uninterrupted view is necessary.
When installed by one of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and qualified fitting teams, our standard film will upgrade glass to meet the safety standard BS EN 12600 (previously BS6206).
Security
Depending on the film chosen, an application of the appropriate film will make your glass harder to break. Whilst a sustained or violent attack will always see the glass succumb, applying the film makes it more difficult to do so and it can serve as an effective deterrent to would be intruders.
It is also possible to apply safety film in conjunction with other window film products to achieve added levels of security. For example, an additional layer of privacy film would serve to block the view.
Additional Protection
On rare occasions, a building may have been identified as being at risk from a more serious attack. Situations such as this require a more involved solution, but as a Madico SafetyShield Premier Partner, The Window Film Company is in a position to provide a range of film and attachment systems, each designed to provide the maximum protection against criminal activity, extreme weather and bomb-blast.
