Building Regulations Approved Document N outlines the requirements when it comes to safe glass and glazing. In summary, the regulation requires that glass in doors and side panels between floor level and 1500mm, and glazed walls or partitions and windows between floor level and 800mm should be safety glass.
Needing safety glass doesn’t mean expensive replacement glazing. When applied by The Window Film Company’s professional fitters, an application of safety film will upgrade glass to meet the BS EN 12600 standard, immediately bringing it in line with the relevant legislation.
Safety window film works in two ways. By adding a protective layer to the glass, it instantly becomes more resistant to damage. In the event
of the glass breaking, the film will hold it together preventing dangerous shards from falling away from the pane. The film ensures that any breakage brings with it as small a risk as is possible.
Safety film is available in a range of thicknesses and finishes including an optically clear option. Each film delivers a different level of performance, with the effectiveness of the film ranging from standard safety film all the way to bomb-blast protection - there is a window film available to match every safety and security requirement. Safety film can be applied internally or externally, and can also be applied in conjunction with other films to meet other requirements such as privacy, or indeed if a decorative or branded film is desirable.
To ensure that glass meets the standards set out in the building regulations, the film must be fitted by one of our teams of professional installers. Our fully qualified teams operate throughout the country and are experienced in fitting the full range of safety options. Once the film has been installed, a kitemark will be placed on the glass, confirming its conformity.
Safety film can be installed quickly and efficiently with the minimum of disruption and at a fraction of the cost of replacement glass. For more information on the range of film available, or for samples, a quote or details on our installation service, please call 01494 794477.
