This opportunity was seized upon to great effect by a Worcestershire based company, but before the fun stuff, let’s get the nitty gritty out of the way. Here comes the science bit…
What exactly is manifestation?
The function of glass manifestation is to make large panes of glass visible. Untreated installations such as glass partitions and doors can be hazardous, and placing markings at strategic locations serves to prevent potential accidents.
Where and when is it required?
Building regulations require that glass doors and screens have manifestation markings at two levels; between 850mm and 1000mm and 1400 and 1600mm above the floor. These two positions deliver the best possible chance of being noticed and therefore preventing accidents.
Are there any restrictions?
As well as covering a specific location, manifestation must be of a minimum size. If the marking takes the form of a logo or other design, it must be at least 150mm high. If it is a standard feature such as a solid band, the design will need to be a minimum of 50mm in height. In addition, the appearance of the manifestation must provide a suitable contrast with the background. Whilst these requirements are non-negotiable, as long as they are met, the only real limit as to how manifestation can appear is your imagination!
The Window Film Company was contacted by a client who had decided to take full advantage of having to add window film to their glazing. Having gained an understanding of what was required as well as what was possible, the Worcestershire based manufacturing firm decided to cover the entirety of their glass partitions with a striking, full colour design.
The chosen graphic was a stunning forest scene, populated with silver birch trees. This imagery was chosen as the silver birch is an integral part of the manufacturing process that the company is involved in, delivering a professional looking but relevant decorative element to the office.
The detail was printed onto optically clear film, with The Window Film Company’s in-house graphics team experimenting with different levels of opacity to deliver the best possible look and finish. Fourteen large panels were printed, with each panel over 2 and a half metres high and over a metre wide. Each panel was fitted by a team of The Window Film Company’s fully trained and vastly experienced fitters, with the finished project delivering not just manifestation requirements, but a completely new look and feel for the premises.
